Whale watchers rejoice! Winter Whale Watching Week is coming December 26, 2010- January 1, 2011!
From mid December-January each year, thousands of Oregon Coast visitors experience the thrill of a rare grey whale siting as they migrate south. The Whale Watching Spoken Here® volunteers have helped visitors spot these mysterious and rarely seen creatures as an estimated 18,000 grey whales make their annual Southbound journey to Baja lagoons of Mexico.
Most of the whales will be about 5 miles out, but some can be seen as close as 1-2 miles off shore. Trained volunteers will be present at 26 Whale Watching Spoken Here sites Dec. 26-Jan.1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (including Shore Acres State Park) to teach visitors more about migrating gray whales.
Added bonus for out of town visitors, take advantage of our Chowder Bounty specials! Guests of participating hotels will receive 2 $25 Gift Certificates to local restaurants to sample the world’s best chowder. Whale Watching Spoken Here® is currently the largest whale watching organization in the world. For more than 30 years hundreds of trained volunteers have helped visitors watch whales at 26 sites in three states along the Pacific Northwest coast.
